Juan M. Lope Blanch was concerned with the definition and mode of analysis of syntactic units in several works covering a long period of thought always rooted in the grammatical tradition of the Spanish language. Lope states: "I have never had the audacity to think of writing a grammar of the Spanish language, but as a professor of this subject at the Universidad Nacional de México [sic] since 1952, I have had to organize a method of teaching sentence syntax that I have been expounding in my classes and that, to a large extent, has been collected in the initial pages of my book on the Grammatical Analysis of Discourse", and that, "To arrive at that practical result, I have had to seek some solution for much discussed topics on which there has not been total agreement among the various authors." What are these solutions? What are the topics discussed? This brief text is designed to answer these questions.
