Information and communication technologies for children in the autism spectrum disorder

The increased incidence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses has caused substantial interest in the health and education fields. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that, in 2012, by the age of eight, one in 68 children had a diagnosis of ASD. Studies conducted in 2016 by the Mexican Autism Clinic (CLIMA) in León, Guanajuato, report an incidence of one per 115 children with ASD. The absence of physical markers of this disorder makes its diagnosis and early detection difficult and the high verbal functionality that in some cases is present in Asperger syndrome and high-functioning autism is reflected in its late detection. This study proposes an application that incorporates information and communication technologies (ICT) and other digital tools to treat this type of cases.
