Abstract

In the book Desaparecidos: cartografías del abandono, Gabriel Gatti uses concepts such as abandonment and social disappearance to explore the difficult task of recounting the non-existent or invisible within society. The cartography of the disappeared, of abandonment, is a narrative exercise in the face of the resurgence of new forms of violence, such as the social disappeared in Uruguay, the displaced bodies in Mexico, denationalization and erased lives in the Dominican Republic, missing children in Spain, or forgotten bodies in mass graves in Brazil. Thus, Gatti’s work can be thought of in terms of the variants of the disappeared, the visible and the invisible, of telling, telling them, and telling their story.
