The art of Vidal-Quadras in Cuernavaca: the story of a portrait

The artistic finding of a work by the prominent catalan painter Alejo Vidal-quadras, in Cuernavaca, who, in 1959, made the portrait of the famous singer Gloria Lasso, is proposed. This work is significant since it allows us to get to know both the artist and the model. Vidal-Quadras gained worldwide recognition for his paintings of famous people. Lasso's portrait not only reflects his essence and physical beauty, it also has the “aura” of his time of invaluable symbolic value. It is currently in the possession of his daughter María José Lasso. The author’s work and the one reviewed here constitute a discovery that enriches the artistic and cultural context in Morelos, as well as bridges for reflection regarding the visual arts.
