Chemical ecology is responsible for studying the chemical compounds of insects, as well as their relationship and interaction with nature. Substances that carry information have been classified as infochemicals or semiochemicals. However, the possibility of a unified classification was raised. In this article, we give the context of both classifications and discuss the idea of unifying them, focusing on triatomines (insects of medical importance). Having a classification that encompasses all chemical phenomena in the communication of the species can help us to have better ways to control these insects.
