Visual photosensitivity refers to the susceptibility to rapid, usually flickering, light changes that affect a portion of the population. Adverse physiological effects stemming from this condition have been presented, highlighting the persistence and importance of its study, especially given the potential implications of ongoing technological advancements. This paper presents the conceptual foundations of the topic and the possible causes associated with its manifestation. It also addresses the nature of natural and artificial photosensitive stimuli, which, in relation to perception and attention, are present in the common spaces that surround us.
