Conflicts over land tenure in Morelos

Abstract

Land conflicts in the state of Morelos have their origins in the agrarian distribution, not only because this implied the challenge for the Mexican state to find the appropriate mechanisms for the process of land distribution, but also because it took place within the context of a series of legal and technical inconsistencies that have repercussions to this day. This, together with the increase, after the second half of the 20th century, of the pressure on the resource, sharpened the different land conflicts that were in force and put them back on the agenda of the agrarian organizations. Based on the analysis of a case study involving three agrarian centers, this article analyzes conflicts as processes that have been historically constructed over the course of a century and are part of the relationships between the different actors that hold social ownership of land.
