In Mexico, overweight and obesity affect seven out of every ten adults. These trends led to an increase in the number of gyms from 2,200 in 2010 to 7,826 in 2012. However, membership retention is an inherent problem in the sector. The research aims to identify a fitness business management model that impacts member retention. Fitness business development was determined through management, service, communication, human resources and facilities. Interviews with fitness professionals and active members were collected. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. It was found that the sector is dominated by women and 70% of the population stays for a period of no more than seven months. Business management focused on the coach, by direct contact, communication through social networks and service with defined schedules and days. The companies show a profitability of up to 69%, which makes them a self-business opportunity for people linked to the sector.
