The burnout syndrome was first defined by Herbert J. Freudenberg (1974), who described it as “the relationship between exhaustion and wear caused by excessive force or energy demands. This situation occurs with a worker, who "burns out" (wears out) and fails in his desire to achieve his work goals. We can understand that burnout syndrome affects physically and mentally.” However, from a psychosocial perspective, Maslach and Jackson, in 1979, extended this concept in greater depth. They defined burnout as a syndrome of poor professional performance, emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, which can occur among individuals who work with people directly or indirectly.
