The main objective of this article is to analyze the contribution to territorial development of an NGO program called Ecomarapendi and the Cooperative Solidarity Recycling Program in two cooperatives sponsored by a brewing company in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The role of social responsibility and the third sector in socio-environmental actions is also reflected. The methodology had a qualitative approach, through documentary techniques and semi-structured interviews with key actors. Based on very specific examples, the results showed that participation in the program brought economic, social, and environmental benefits to the cooperatives, through their formalization and concession of equipment for the collection, storage and transportation of waste. However, there is a need to continue with actions to support recycling cooperatives.
