Abstract

The words cognition and cognitive are now widely used to refer to the activities that usually characterize living beings, such as sensory perception, emotion, motor decision and, in the case of humans and some other species, thinking. From the second half of the 20th century onwards, the various disciplines that had studied cognitive activities became so integrated that in many places we already speak of cognitive science. One consequence of the development of the cognitive sciences has been that the old discussion about their basic notion, that of humanity, has been taken up again. This article discusses the idea that the notion of humanity that has been arrived at is richer and more adequate than the one from which it started, but there is a missing point for this notion, enriched with technology, to be fairer and more faithful to reality.
