From the shelter to the cuartería: the loss of decent housing for migrant farmworkers in Atlatlahucan

The article analyzes the services and living conditions available to migrant day laborers who come to Atlatlahucan, Morelos, for the vegetable harvest. There, housing reflect a decline in social support for this population, whose presence is essential to the regional and state economies. This information was gathered during various periods of fieldwork conducted by the authors between 2003 and 2025, supplemented by surveys administered in 2003-2005 and 2015. Taking an anthropological approach, the research was based on interviews with workers and producers, including fieldwork at hiring sites, the cuarterías, the shelter, and the farm fields.
