Gender, as a system or symbolic order, cannot be reduced to supposed biological or biopsychological, or even biosocial, constants existing in the human species. This is why an expression such as "sex-gender identity", which is taken as a starting point, is inherently problematic. This article studies the problems posed by the notion of identity change in terms of its adjectivations and consequent determinations. For this purpose, it is concerned first with saving chiaroscuros around the episteme of anthropology of gender, and then analyzing identity in terms of the current relationship between the gender system and sex. In a third section, the personal and social aspects of identity are questioned. It closes with a reflection on the relevance of continuing to speak of a change of sex that implies changing the social identity of the individual.
