Sugarcane cultivation in Mexico is used to obtain sucrose. In this process, by-products such as bagasse are obtained. Several factors have made it necessary to reactivate the production of these products for the benefit of the agroindustry and the sugarcane sector. The purpose of this work was to obtain and evaluate the furfural present in sugarcane bagasse of the varieties MEX-69290, ATEMEX-9640 and CP-722086, to choose the one with the highest production and obtain by-products. An acid hydrolysis with sulfuric acid (20%) was carried out at room temperature for eight days; a furfural concentration of 23 g/L was obtained for the first two varieties, while the third one did not have an efficient conversion. It is concluded that the first two are the most recommendable varieties for the production of furfural, which will allow adding value to the sugarcane production chain in the state of Veracruz, Mexico.
