Swallowing is one of the most complex and essential functions for the development of human life, it is the process by which food, liquids, or saliva are transported from the mouth to the stomach through the esophagus. In the present article, data were collected through surveys and physical examination tests conducted in a nursing home located in the city of Durango, Durango. The results observed in the prevalence of swallowing disorders in the geriatric population studied indicate swallowing problems and a health issue affecting quality of life, as this also reveals the existence of an unexplored area within the field of human communication therapy.
