Gender: a view from greek philosophy and the religions

Feminist and gender theories have shown that gender, as a cultural construct, influences daily, social, and political life. Philosophy has debated knowledge, ethics, and values, and has assigned different ontological value to men and women, while religions, throughout history, have established patriarchy as a social system, with men as heads of households and owners of property. It was not until the 20th century, with the formalization of feminist and gender studies, that the fundamentalist conceptions of philosophy and religion were refuted and various theories were developed to explain gender differences from a scientific perspective, drawing on various social and natural sciences.
